COUMADIN
Locale: inner city university pediatric emergency room, after 6 pm
The phone rings, and it's an angry, distraught mother. Her toddler had taken her ENTIRE months' worth of coumadin, and the paramedics wanted to take the baby to the nearest hospital, rather than bringing the baby to us.
We tried to explain to her what the dangers were to her baby. "Mam, if she even sits DOWN hard . . .", but to no avail.
The baby never arrived at a hospital. We checked every hospital within a 50 mile radius.
We don't know what happened to the little one, and will always wonder.
